Pravin Bajaj: Chairman and Managing Director, Bajaj Group of Industries

Pravin Bajaj is chairman and managing director of the Bajaj Group of Industries based in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. He holds both graduate and postgraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering Pune.

Bajaj began his career as a graduate engineer trainee at Walchand Industries and has also contributed to the teaching profession. In 1991, Bajaj founded Hitech Engineers, focusing on boiler efficiency improvement with heat recovery units such as economisers, air preheaters, steam piping work and major boiler repair work.

Building on this foundation, he established Bajaj Power Equipments Private Limited in 2008. This venture was aimed at supplying conventional boilers to industries including sugar, distillery, steel, cement and chemicals.

Bajaj Power Equipments boasts a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ahmednagar, equipped with advanced machinery like automatic panel manufacturing machines, panel bending machines, coil bending machines, orbital welding machines, automatic straight tube butt welding machines, and automatic drum welding and drilling machines.

Drawing on his experience in the power and industrial sectors, Bajaj has gradually steered the group into newer areas such as refineries, cement, steel and waste-to-energy, while also beginning to explore opportunities in green fuels, reflecting his personal interest in aligning industrial growth with longer-term sustainability.

According to Bajaj, the power industry is going through a major change, driven by rising demand, policy shifts and increasing environmental considerations. He notes, “We must gradually transition to green power, including green methanol, hydrogen, CBG, etc., along with solar and wind. However, India will still have to depend on thermal energy sources, such as coal, for quite some time, as well as adopt SOx and NOx removal processes for environmental protection.”

Bajaj Power Equipments Private Limited exported empty fruit bunch (EFB)-fired boilers to Thailand within three years of its incepton in 2011. EFB-fired boilers have now been adopted by the palm oil industry across Southern Thailand. Bajaj Power Equipments has installation in the African continent.

As corporate social responsibility, Bajaj also operates a school for the weaker sections of society at Ahmednagar.

After work, spending time with his family, including his grandchildren, keeps him happy and motivated for the next day.
