The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) at Bengaluru, Karnataka, has upgraded its north runway (09L/27R) to Code F compliance, enabling it to handle large aircraft including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8. With this, the parallel runways at the airport can now accommodate Code F aircraft, making it the only airport in south India with such a capability. The upgrade involved strengthening pavements, widening shoulders and improving taxiway links. The runway has received regulatory approval, marking a major milestone in KIA’s expansion and enhancing Bengaluru’s role in long-haul global operations.
