Amit Agrawal appointed as secretary, Department of Telecommunications

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Pharmaceutical Secretary Amit Agrawal as the new secretary in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), while the outgoing secretary has been moved to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Agrawal, a 1993-batch IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, assumed charge of the Department of Pharmaceuticals in December 2024. He also briefly served as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Before that, he worked as an additional secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and earlier as additional secretary and joint secretary in the Ministry of Finance. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Agrawal has held several key roles at the centre and in the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
