Rail Vikas Nigam Limited and Nepal government sign MoU for Mominpur-Esplanade stretch under Kolkata Metro Expansion Project

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Consulate General of Nepal have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the exchange of land parcels for the Mominpur-Esplanade stretch under the Kolkata Metro Expansion Project in West Bengal.

As per the agreement, land parcels of 409.53 square metres (sqm) from the Nepal Consulate will be swapped with 526.34 sqm of land by Metro Railway, Kolkata for the construction of a ramp between Mominpur and Kidderpore for the underground section of the metro project.

The project involves the expansion of the existing metro rail network in Kolkata in West Bengal by 88.55 km with an investment of Rs 193.94 billion. The expansion plan includes Joka to Benoy Badal Dinesh (BBD) Bagh-Diamond Park (18.72 km), Noapara to Barasat via Airport (Bimanbandar) (18.13 km), Airport to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) via Rajarhat (32 km), Baranagar to Barrackpore and Dakshineswar (14.5 km), and Dum Dum to Baranagar (5.2 km).
