The Union Government inaugurated the Sonik Integrated Logistics Hub under the Lucknow railway division of the Northern Railway (NR) zone. The terminal is located approximately 50 km from Lucknow and 20 km from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. It will serve the logistics needs of both the regions, offering end-to-end solutions including door-to-door delivery, distribution hubs for cargo, and warehousing and inventory management services.
The hub is expected to boost freight throughput by around 20 per cent within a year. The Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) will manage all terminal operations and provide first- and last-mile connectivity across a wide-range of commodities such as fertilisers, foodgrains, cement, and tractors.
Industries can now send a specific number of containers without the need to fill an entire rake. Additionally, goods sheds or logistics terminals will now be equipped with facilities for stuffing and de-stuffing containers. Notably, Sonik has become the first integrated logistics hub in the country to offer this facility. Furthermore, there are plans to extend transportation services for tractors and heavy construction equipment, similar to the existing car cargo services.
