Highway construction pace likely to drop to 27 km/day in 2025-26

According to CareEdge Ratings, highway construction is expected to slow down to 27 km per day in 2025-26. In 2024-25, the pace of construction dropped to roughly 29 km per day due to a decline in both project awards and construction. National highway construction is expected to drop by 7-10 per cent in 2025-26 due to a decrease in awarding activity and delays in gaining clearances for HAM projects. Despite the execution slowdown, toll road traffic is predicted to increase steadily at a rate of about 7 per cent in 2025-26 owing to government plans to build industrial corridors, multimodal logistics development and robust domestic coal production.
