JV of SPML Infra and JWIL Infra wins contract for implementation of contract CP2 under Perur Water Desalination Plant in Tamil Nadu 

The Joint Venture (JV) of SPML Infra Limited (26 per cent) and JWIL Infra Limited (74 per cent) has won a contract worth Rs 2,580 million for implementation of contract CP2 under the Perur Water Desalination Project. Bids for the same were invited by Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) in March, 2024.

Of the total contract cost, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will fund Rs 2,059.9 million and the rest Rs 519.9 million will be funded by the state government.

The contract CP2 involves construction of two pumping stations at Perur and Porur having capacities of 400 mld and 350 mld respectively, construction of a 15 ml ground level reservoir (GLR) at Porur, inlet and outlet valve chambers, procurement, laying, jointing, testing and commissioning of pipeline, procurement and installation of flow meters and associated items, including testing and commissioning, etc. including a 20-year operation and maintenance (O&M) period.

The work is likely to be completed in 18 months.

The project, being implemented by CMWSSB involves development of a seawater desalination plant of 400 mld capacity in Perur, Tamil Nadu. It also involves laying of sea water intake pipeline, outfall pipeline, construction of seawater intake head and outfall diffuser along with intake sump and a pump house. It is being implemented on a design, build and operate (DBO) basis under the public private partnership (PPP) mode at an estimated cost of Rs 42,764.4 million.
