The union government inaugurated the Motijheel-Kanpur Central stretch under the Kanpur Metro Rail Phase I project on May 30, 2025. The stations falling under the stretch are Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj and Kanpur Central.
With this, about 16 km metro network is now operational under Phase I.
The Kanpur Metro project involves development of a 33 km long metro rail system in Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.76 billion.
