The centre has unveiled Rs 1.30 trillion roadmap for Uttarakhand’s road infrastructure, spotlighting the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor as a key driver for economic growth. Key immediate projects include the 51 km six-lane stretch from Saharanpur bypass to Haridwar, set to open in June 2026 to ease commuter traffic, and the Rs 16.50 billion four-lane Paonta Sahib-Dehradun link becoming operational in May 2026. The Rs 16 billion Haridwar four-lane greenfield bypass (Phase 1) targets completion by October 2026, while the Rs 11 billion Rishikesh bypass will start construction in August 2026. Moving forward, Rudrapur’s 21 km four-lane bypass (Rs 10.50 billion) is likely to be completed by October 2026, followed by Kashipur’s 15-km version (Rs 9.36 billion) in December 2026.
Further developments feature the Dehradun-Jhajra-Asharodi’s 12 km elevated road (Rs 7.16 billion) due in April 2027 and Bhaniyawala-Jolly Grant-Rishikesh’s 20 km route (Rs 7.45 billion) by April 2028, with a Rs 8 billion Srinagar bypass detailed project report (DPR) already underway. On the major ongoing front, the Rs 120 billion, under the 825 km Char Dham project, around 640 km stands completed, incorporating ropeways for Sonprayag-Kedarnath and Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib alongside tunnels for all-weather connectivity.
