Solid waste management recycling plant commissioned at Trichy airport

An in-house solid waste management system recycling plant was commissioned at the Trichy International Airport in Tamil Nadu on February 13, 2025. The plant, entailing Rs 15 million, will collect, segregate and recycle waste, and can handle 1 tonne of waste per day. The plant has been developed on a build-operate-maintain basis, on an area of 300 square metres. A mini waste collection vehicle has been acquired to carry waste to the unit from the terminal and offices of AAI. A smart drum composter will convert biodegradable waste into manure within only a few weeks. Materials such as cardboard, paper and plastic will be compacted and compressed using a baling machine, saving space and transportation costs.
