Indian Railways (IR) has started manufacturing 10 Vande Bharat sleeper trains as of December 2024. Moreover, contracts for the manufacturing of 200 rakes have been awarded to the technology partners. Further, IR is focused on increasing the production of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches as they feature a failure indication system, air suspension, and a less corrosive shell, among other features. During 2014-24, a total of 36,933 LHB coaches have been manufactured, which is 16 times more than the 2,337 LHB coaches produced in 2004-14.
Besides, IR has installed a total of 1,512 escalators at 399 stations and 1,607 lifts at 609 stations, till November 2024.
