The rural household in Himachal Pradesh with an annual income exceeding Rs 50,000 will be charged Rs 100 per month while the commercial water consumers will be billed based on their water consumption.
The government of Himachal Pradesh has decided to provide a metered water supply to commercial establishments like hotels and home-stays. They would be billed on commercial rates. These commercial units have been receiving free water supply for the past few years. Some underprivileged sections including widows, destitute, single women, handicapped and other weaker sections of the society will still receive free water supply.
Reportedly, the proceeds from the bills will be used to improve the quality of drinking water.
