The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has plans to offer around 15 road projects worth Rs 440 billion, spanning 900 km, for bids under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode in 2024-25. These projects are a part of the Centre’s plan to offer 53 projects worth over Rs 2.2 trillion, covering 5,200 km, under BOT mode over the next three to five years.
Recently, the government amended the model concession agreement (MCA) to make the model attractive for the private sector. If successful, this could mark the comeback of the public-private-partnership (PPP) projects in roads and highways.
