Construction work on Wavarle tunnel between Panvel and Karjat has been completed under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) – Phase III.
The Phase III of the project includes quadrupling of the Virar-Dahanu section (64 km), development of new suburban railway tracks between Panvel and Karjat (28 km), trespass control on mid-section on 36 priority sections of existing lines of Central and Western Railway, procurement of rolling stock and development of an elevated link from Airoli to Kalwa in Maharashtra.
