The NHAI has set a new benchmark in 2023-24 by spending a record Rs 2,070 billion on the construction of national highways. This marked a significant 20 per cent increase from Rs 1,730 billion spent in the 2022-23 and Rs 1,720 billion in 2021-22. The construction pace also reached new heights, with 6,644 km of highways built, surpassing the 2022-23 record of 5,544 km by 20 per cent.
The total length of highways constructed in 2023-24 was 53 per cent higher than in 2021-22, when 4,331 km were built. NHAI had aimed to construct 6,544 km of highways during 2023-24. Monetisation receipts for NHAI in 2023-24 reached Rs 403.14 billion, the highest ever in a financial year and a 70 per cent increase from Rs 236.50 billion in 2022-23. This includes monetisation through TOT bundles, InvITs, and toll securitisation. The total asset monetisation receipts for NHAI since 2018 have now surpassed Rs 1 trillion.
