State scraps Kerala Semi-High Speed Rail Corridor Project (Silver Line) in Kerala

Government of Kerala has formally scrapped the proposed Kerala Semi-High Speed Rail Corridor Project (Silver Line).

The state government stated that the project lacked financial viability and adequate Ministry of Railways (MoR) support, while also raising concerns over environmental impact and large-scale land acquisition for the project.

The project, being implemented by Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), involved construction of 529.45 km long third and fourth rail lines between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod at an estimated cost of Rs 639.41 billion.
