PMC undertakes pipeline replacement works to curb water losses

The Pune Municipal Corporation has saved about 100 mld of treated water by laying a pipeline from the Parvati water works to the Cantonment water works. The pipeline became operational in December 2018 and so far about 100 mld of savings have been recorded. In all, the civic agency expects to save about 150 mld of water through this initiative. At this rate, the civic agency will be able to save about 1 tmc of water per annum. Prior to that, water was wasted due to evaporation and leakages during transportation through the open canal. About Rs 1 billion has been spent on laying the pipeline which runs almost parallel to the existing canal. The project has not only helped prevent water losses but has also stopped the practice of lifting water from the Mutha canal.
