Bihar government inaugurated phase 2 of the Ganga water lift project in Nawada

The Government of Bihar inaugurated phase 2 of the Ganga water lift project in Nawada, Bihar on December 15, 2023. The scope of work includes the construction of a water treatment plant (WTP) in Paura village and the laying of a pipeline network to connect the pump house with the households. The project includes pumping surplus floodwater of river Ganga to the water-stressed cities of Gaya and Rajgir towns for drinking purposes through a 191 km pipeline, dedicated reservoirs, and WTPs for supplying 43 million cubic meter (mcm) and 7 mcm, respectively. The project is a part of the state’s Jal Jeevan Hariyali initiative. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 45 billion.
