India and Iran signed a pact on February 17, 2018, which gives the former operational control of a part of Chabahar port for a period of 18 months. Phase I of Chabahar port, also known as Shahid Beheshti port, was inaugurated in December 2017, opening a new strategic route connecting Iran, India and Afghanistan, bypassing Pakistan.
