NHSRCL completes bridge over Sabarmati river under the Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR Corridor Project in Gujarat

National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has completed the 480-metre-long and 36 metre tall bridge over Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad under the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (HSR) Corridor Project. It is located adjacent to the Western Railway (WR) Ahmedabad-Delhi main line, and between Sabarmati and Ahmedabad bullet train stations and has been developed using the Balanced Cantilever method which is a specialised technique mainly for long-span bridges over rivers and deep waterways.

Besides, it comprises five spans of 76 metres each and two spans of 50 metres each and supported by eight circular piers. So far, 18 out of total 21 river bridges have been completed in Gujarat.

The project involves development of a 508.17 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR corridor in Maharashtra and Gujarat with an investment of Rs 1,080 billion. It is being implemented by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), named National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), incorporated by the Ministry of Railways (MoR) and the respective state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat with equity stake of 50:25:25 respectively. The project is the first corridor to be explored for the railway’s ambitious bullet train project and also includes a 21 km long sub-sea tunnel from Mumbai to Thane.
