The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved three railway projects worth Rs 107.83 billion in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The projects will cover around 656 km and will generate additional freight traffic of 27 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA). The projects are:
- Kharagpur-Jharsuguda (Bagdehi) Fourth Rail Line Project involves development of 367 km long fourth railway line between Kharagpur and Jharsuguda (Bagdehi) in the states of West Bengal and Odisha at an estimated cost of Rs 65.28 billion.
- Katni-Pendra Road Fourth Rail Line Project involves construction of 201 km long fourth rail line between Katni and Pendra Road in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh at an estimated cost of Rs 29.75 billion.
- Bilaspur (Uslapur)-Pendra Road Third Rail Line Project involves construction of 87 km long third rail line between Bilaspur (Uslapur) and Pendra Road in the state of Chhattisgarh with an investment of around Rs 12.79 billion.
