The Ministry of Railways (MoR) has commissioned the 60 km long Nangal Dam-Daulatpur Chowk rail section under the Nangal Dam-Talwara New Broad Gauge Line Project. Besides, work for the 10.5 km long Daulatpur Chowk- Kartoli Punjab section has been completed under the project. In the 13.65 km long Kartoli-Talwara section, construction activities are progressing across multiple components. The 9.2 km viaduct is currently under execution, with approximately 25 per cent of the work completed. Works have also been taken up for one major bridge, seven minor bridges, two road overbridges (ROBs), and eight Road Under Bridges (RUBs). In the 28.7 km long Talwara-Mukerian section, substantial progress has been achieved across key components. Out of 13 major bridges, works are underway with approximately 70 per cent completed. Of the 40 RUBs, 29 have been completed, while construction is in progress for the remaining 11. Additionally, out of three station buildings, two have been completed, and work is ongoing on the remaining one.
Nangal Dam-Talwara New Broad Gauge Line Project involves laying of a 112.9 km long new rail line between Nangal Dam and Talwara via Una and taking over siding Mukerian-Talwara in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh respectively with an investment of Rs 21 billion. The foundation stone for the new rail line was laid in 1974 with the approval for the siding being received in March 1981.
