Cabinet approves expansion of Srinagar International Airport

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the expansion of the civil enclave at the Srinagar International Airport with an estimated cost of Rs 16.77 billion.

The project will be spread over an area of 73.18 acres and feature a terminal building spanning 71,500 square meters including 20,659 square meters of existing structure. It is designed to have a passenger handling capacity of 2,900 passengers during peak hours and 10 million passengers per annum (mppa), up from the current capacity of 2.5 mppa.

It will also feature an expanded apron with a total of 15 aircraft parking bays, of which nine currently exist and six are proposed and a multi-level car parking facility with a capacity for 1,000 cars.

The project would also feature advanced water harvesting systems and the use of natural lighting and locally sourced eco-friendly materials.
