President Droupadi Murmu addressed the 8ᵗʰ assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in New Delhi by commending the ISA’s initiatives such as the global solar facility, small island developing state (SIDS) platform, Africa’s mini-grid deployment, and digital innovations. She emphasised the need for deeper inclusivity in the global solar push, ensuring that “no woman, farmer, village or small island is left behind.” President Murmu reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding ISA-led solar cooperation, particularly across Africa and SIDS by replicating successful domestic schemes such as the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM.
Key announcements at the ISA Assembly included the launch of the Solar Upcycling Network for Recycling, Innovation & Stakeholder Engagement, aimed at transforming solar waste into green industrial growth. A dedicated vertical under the one sun one world one grid initiative was also introduced to drive regional solar grid interconnections. ISA and the World Bank Group also announced an in-principle memorandum of understanding under the SIDS platform, committing 16 member countries to collaborative solar procurement, digital integration, and capacity building. The assembly also unveiled a global capability centre envisioned as a silicon valley style innovation hub for solar in India.
