The government of Tamil Nadu has approved the third phase of the Hogenakkal Combined Drinking Water Scheme. The scope of the project includes drawing water from the Cauvery River and treating about 243 million litres of water daily. The water will then be stored in a 15.72 million litre capacity reservoir and distributed through a network of 32 break pressure tanks, 324 master balancing reservoirs, 598 sumps, and 1,009 overhead tanks.
The project will be providing water supply to 3.88 million people across Hosur, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri municipalities, 16 town panchayats, and 20 panchayat unions spanning 6,802 habitations. The project is worth Rs 84.29 billion. Of this, funds worth Rs 22.83 billion will be provided by the central government, Rs 17.61 billion will be funded by the state and industries, and Rs 43.84 billion will be raised as external aid.
