The construction of a 104.8 km high-speed freight corridor, officially known as the Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, has been approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet. The corridor will connect the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Palghar district with Bharvir in Nashik district, connecting it to the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway.
Further, it will cut the commuting time from 4-5 hours to just 1-1.5 hours, while saving around 79 km of travel.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is developing the project. A total expenditure of Rs 25.28 billion, including a loan of Rs 15 billion from Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), has been approved by the Cabinet. The completion of the corridor is expected within three years.
The planned expressway would provide a direct, quick-moving logistical link between the state’s western coast and central and eastern Maharashtra, passing via Dahanu, Vikramgad, Jawhar, and Mokhada in Palghar district, and Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri in Nashik district.
