The government is planning for the Sagarmala 2.0 initiative which will be a strategic upgrade focusing on shipbuilding, repair, breaking, and recycling. Backed by Rs 400 billion in budgetary support, it aims to drive investments worth Rs 12 trillion over the next decade.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is also working to transform India’s maritime sector by 2047 through initiatives like the maritime Amrit Kaal Vision. It aims to position India among the world’s top five shipbuilding nations by adding 4 million gross registered tonnage (GRT) of shipbuilding capacity and expanding port handling capacity to 10 billion metric tonnes annually.
