Bengaluru metro’s green line extension opens for commercial operation

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has officially inaugurated the 3.14-km extension of Bengaluru’s Namma metro green line, which runs from Nagasandra to Madavara, for commercial operations on November 7, 2024. This elevated corridor which is a part of the metro rail project’s phase-2, received statutory clearance after an inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (southern circle) on October 3, 2024.

This new extension adds three stations, Manjunathanagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), with a total expenditure of Rs 11.68 billion, which includes Rs 1.52 billion allocated for land acquisition. The project aims to enhance connectivity to the BIEC and alleviate traffic congestion along the corridor. It is anticipated that the new line will benefit approximately 44,000 passengers daily.
