Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill 2024 introduced in Lok Sabha 

On July 31, 2024, the Ministry of Civil Aviation introduced the new Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha.

The new bill aims to remove redundancies and replace the old Aircraft Act 1934 which was reportedly amended 21 times, and to improve the overall ease of doing business in the aviation sector. The bill comprises of provisions for the regulation of aircraft design and manufacturing, supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Among other things, the bill also aims to provide the central government with more powers to issue directives, detain aircraft, and enact emergency.

Further, post implementation of the Act, the Radio Telephone Operator (Restricted) Certificate and Licence, a requirement for pilot training completion, which is currently issued by the Department of Telecommunications would be issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
