Kolkata metro to implement advanced CBTC signalling system across network

Kolkata metro is set to upgrade its network with the communication-based train control (CBTC) signalling system. With this upgradation, it will become the second metro network in India to adopt CBTC technology after Delhi metro.

The new signalling system is being installed on Joka to Esplanade and Kavi Subhash to Biman Bandar metro corridors at a cost of Rs 8 billion. Additionally, Rs 5 billion has been allocated to implement the technology on the north-south metro corridor. The entire Kolkata metro network is expected to be equipped with the automatic train operation (ATO) mode of the CBTC signalling System within the next five years.
