About 63 per cent of physical progress has been achieved for phase I and II of the Navi Mumbai International Airport project and is likely to be operational by March 31, 2025. Meanwhile, the southern runway along with terminal (T1), cargo terminal, and other associated structures are under construction, whereas the 3.7 km long runway, dual parallel taxiways and all other structures are likely to be completed soon. The project, being implemented by the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), involves the development of a greenfield airport in Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra in five phases on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) basis under the public-private partnership (PPP) model at an estimated cost of Rs 413.02 billion. Phase I and II involve adding passenger capacity of 20 mppa and a cargo handling capacity of 0.8 million tonnes per annum.
