Nemmeli water desalination plant gets inaugurated

The Tamil Nadu government inaugurated the Nemmeli water desalination plant on February 24, 2024. The project involved the development of a 150 million litres per day (mld) seawater desalination plant, based on reverse osmosis technology to convert seawater into fresh potable water to supply to Chennai at an investment of Rs 12.59 billion. It will receive shared funding from KfW Development Bank to the tune of Rs 7 billion and Rs 5.59 billion from the government under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation Scheme.
