Tamil Nadu approved the feasibility report of the mass rapid transit system (MRTS) in Coimbatore on April 1, 2022. The project involves the development of a 139 km long metro rail system in Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. It will be implemented in three phases with Phase I being a 44 km long stretch on Avinashi Road and Sathyamangalam Road. The Phase I works will be completed in three years.
