For the development of the remotest eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh, the state government is developing the Purvanchal Expressway from Lucknow to the eastern region. The six-lane expressway will pass through the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur, and will also connect with the existing Agra-Lucknow Expressway. After two consecutive cancellations, the contracts for all eight packages of the expressway were finally awarded in July 2018. Currently, about 54 per cent construction work has been completed on the project. So far, UPEIDA has raised funds worth about Rs 113 billion for the construction of the expressway. Being an access-controlled expressway, it would provide  fuel and time savings, help control the pollution level, and minimise accidents.
