The central government has laid the foundation stone for the development of the Chennai Port-Maduravoyal double-decker elevated highway project. A detailed project report for the project was submitted to the National Highways Authority of India in 2019 by Larsen and Toubro Infrastructure Engineering Limited. The project involves the construction of a 20.6 km long road stretch connecting Chennai port and Maduravoyal expressway in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 58.55 billion. The elevated corridor will have the capacity to handle 40,000 passenger cars per day.
