IOCL, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) plan to set up 22,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations over the next three to five years. IOCL plans to set up EV charging stations at 10,000 fuel dispensing stations over the next three years, BPCL intends to integrate EV charging stations at 7,000 fuelling stations over the next five years, and HPCL will incorporate EV charging infrastructure at 5,000 retail fuelling outlets. The EV charging stations developed by IOCL will be called energy stations. Furthermore, IOCL plans to roll out charging stations at 2,000 fuelling outlets over the next year while HPCL and BPCL will develop EV charging capacity at 1,000 fuelling outlets each over the next year. Additionally, IOCL envisages a scenario where it has a 50 kW EV charging station for 25 km of roads and a 100 kW heavy duty EV charging station for 100 km of roads.
