Construction work on the Perur Water Desalination Plant Project in Tamil Nadu is likely to be completed by end 2026. Currently, out of 59 km of large-diameter transmission pipelines, 37.13 km of pipes have been supplied and pipeline-laying work is progressing along a 10.32 km stretch. Offshore works, including laying of high-density polyethylene pipelines of 2,500 mm diameter along the seabed, installation of two seawater intake pipelines and a brine discharge pipeline, and connection of offshore caisson structures, have been completed. The scope of work involves the construction of a 400 million litre per day (mld) seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant at Perur, Chennai, on a design-build-operate basis with 20 years of O&M. The project is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 58.14 billion.
