IR sanctions upgradation of electric traction system of Mahbubnagar-Secunderabad-Medchal Rail Section Project in Telangana

Indian Railways (IR) sanctioned the upgradation of electric traction system of Mahbubnagar-Secunderabad-Medchal Rail Section Project at an estimated cost of Rs 2.85 billion on June 8, 2026.

The project involves upgradation of existing 1×25 kV electric traction system into 2×25 kV electric traction system, covering 141 route km (rkm) from Mahbubnagar-Medchal via Secunderabad of the South Central Railway (SCR) zone at an estimated cost of Rs 2.85 billion in Telanagana, for enhanced freight movement across the stretch. The section is part of High-Density Network (HDN) routes and falls on the Dharmavaram-Dhone-Mahbubnagar-Secunderabad-Medchal-Mudkhed-Indore-Ajmer rail corridor, which carries substantial passenger and freight traffic.
