North Western Railway (NWR) has completed more than 60 per cent of the excavation work for the 2.27 km-long tunnel in the Aravalli hills near Chikhla village under the Taranga Hill-Abu Road New Railway Line Project in Rajasthan, with around 700 metres of the tunnel already excavated. Besides, the entire project is expected to be completed by 2027.
The project involves the construction of an 116.65 km rail line from Taranga Hill, Ambaji, and Abu Road in Gujarat and Rajasthan at an estimated cost of Rs 27.98 billion. A total of 15 railway stations will be developed along the Taranga Hill-Abu Road route, with trains expected to operate at a maximum speed of 110 kmph.
