Air India announced the conversion of 15 aircraft from its existing Airbus A321neo aircraft order to the advanced Airbus A321XLR (extra-long range) variant. The conversion is a part of Air India’s orders with Airbus in 2023 and 2024, totalling to 50 twin-aisle A350 aircraft and 300 single-aisle A320 Family aircraft. This conversion applies to 15 of the 210 A321neo aircraft from the 300 single-aisle aircraft. The remaining 90 A320neo aircraft will remain unchanged. The 15 A321XLR aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2029 and 2030.
In addition, Air India has placed an order for 30 additional Boeing single-aisle aircraft, which comprises of 20 737-8 aircraft and 10 737-10 aircraft. This new order is in addition to the 220 Boeing aircraft that the airline ordered in 2023, bringing its total orders with Boeing to 250 aircraft.
