The new terminal building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport at Guwahati in Assam was inaugurated on December 20, 2025. The terminal is spread over an area of around 140,000 square metres and is designed to have a passenger handling capacity of 13.1 million passenger per annum (mppa).
The nature-themed airport terminal has used around 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced Northeast bamboo and features abundant daylight, contemporary designs, and a ‘Sky Forest’ with indigenous species. The terminal also features technology integration including full-body scanners, automated baggage handling, fast-track immigration, and Digi Yatra for passenger convenience.
The move is expected to enhance connectivity, support economic growth across the Northeast and provide a seamless and modern travel experience to passengers.
Operations at the terminal are likely to commence by the end of February 2026.
The overall airport development entails an investment of Rs 50 billion, including Rs 10 billion for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities.
