West Bengal is set to inaugurate one of the state’s biggest infrastructure pushes with a Rs 84.87 billion project to construct over 20,000 km of new roads under the ‘Pathashree’ and ‘Rastashree’ schemes.
It includes 15,011 km of rural roads costing Rs 69.87 billion and 5,019 km of urban roads under the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) at Rs 15 billion.
The state cabinet recently greenlit the project, and a dedicated tendering portal will speed up execution. Construction is slated to start in January 2026.
