46 per cent physical progress achieved on Redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station Project

South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a physical progress of about 46 per cent on the Redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station Project in Telangana.

Currently, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) building has been fully completed. Furthermore, work is progressing on the air concourse, multi-level car parking (MLCP), foot-over bridges (FOB), elevators, north-side main building, and south-side electrical substation. On the south side, about 90 per cent of the basement is complete, with the ground floor planned as a passenger drop-off zone and basement parking for around 200 vehicles. On the north side, construction of the six-storey MLCP is underway, with foundation work for the new FOB towards Kazipet end completed. Besides, to meet the increased power demand of the redeveloped complex, two new 33 kV substations are being installed, replacing the existing 11 kV setup. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2026.

The project involves a major upgradation of the Secunderabad railway stations in Telangana at an estimated cost of Rs 7.14 billion. The major objective of the station upgradation is to redevelop and regenerate city core area with multi-modal integration and the seamless transfer of passengers from one mode to another mode, better connectivity and mobility of rail passengers, convenient pickup and drop off areas for the passengers, adequate parking facility, to decongest the circulating area and integrate with the city road network and to generate business opportunities and revenue generation.
