Indian Railways registers 37 per cent increase in fertiliser transportation in September 2025

Indian Railways (IR) loaded 6.37 million tonnes (mt) of fertilisers in September 2025, marking a significant increase of 37 per cent compared to 4.60 mt loaded in September 2024. During the financial year (FY) 2025-26 (up to September 2025), the rail coefficient for fertiliser supply stood at around 87 per cent.

Additionally, fertiliser transport generated Rs 7.9 billion, accounting for about six per cent of the total freight revenue of Rs 136.5 billion as of September 2025. The key loading areas include eastern ports such as Visakhapatnam, Paradip, Kakinada, and Krishnapatnam, as well as western ports such as Kandla and Mundra.
