ONGC proposes drilling 24 wells in Cauvery basin in Tamil Nadu

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has proposed the drilling of about 24 wells in CY-ONHP-2018/3 block in the Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts in Tamil Nadu. The proposal for grant of the terms of reference (ToR) for the same was submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on October 1, 2019. The CY-ONHP-2018/3 block in the Cauvery asset off the shallow offshore of the Bay of Bengal was won by ONGC under the third round of the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) at a cost of Rs 6.72 billion. ONGC expects to find 25 million tonnes (mt)-30 mt of oil and oil equivalent of gas reserves through drilling the proposed wells.
