Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata witnesses 21.21 per cent increase in cargo traffic during April-June FY 2025-26

The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata handled 17.18 million tonnes (mt) of cargo during April-June period of FY 2025-26. This represents a 21.21 percent increase from the 14.2 million tonnes handled during the corresponding period of FY 2024-25.

The port also witnessed a sharp rise in container traffic, handling 234,270 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the period under consideration, an increase of 29.02 per cent year-on-year.

Key commodity segments recorded significant growth: vegetable oil rose 33.2 per cent to 1.1 mt, coking coal increased 34.3 per cent to 2.65 mt, and petroleum, oil and lubricants rose 14.45 per cent to 2.5 mt.

Port authorities attribute this strong performance to strategic planning, infrastructure upgrades, and a customer-focused approach.
