Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art greenfield facility for wagon production at Kharagpur in West Bengal. The facility is expected to be operational by March 2026 and will be developed under its step-down subsidiary, Ramsarup Industries Limited.
The project will be built in two phases. The phase one will involve the production of 2,400 wagons annually (about eight wagons per day), and phase two will double the production capacity to 4,800 wagons annually. The facility will produce various types of wagons, including flat, open, box, hopper covered, tank, and specialised wagons. Additionally, it will be equipped with solar rooftop panels to generate power from sustainable sources.
