The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has recommended grant of environment clearance (EC) and coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance for phase-II and phase-III of the Vizhinjam International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) project in its meeting held on January 16, 2025.
The project involves the construction of a greenfield, deepwater ICTT at Vizhinjam in Kerala on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer basis for a concession period of 40 years in three phases.
Phase II involves the construction of an additional container terminal and breakwater of 400 meters and 200 meters, respectively. Phase III involves the construction of a liquid terminal of 250 meters, an additional container terminal, breakwater and cruise-cum multipurpose terminal of 800 meters, 700 meters, and 200 meters, respectively. The estimated cost of phase II and phase III of the project is Rs 95.4 billion.
