The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has re-awarded the work for the 25.24 km long Southern Ludhiana Bypass, a long-awaited highway project to Ceigall India. The project was awarded to Ceigall India at Rs 9.23 billion, the lowest (L1) bidder, while the second bidder, VRC Construction had quoted Rs 11.41 billion for the same.
The project has a completion timeline of two years. The government of Punjab has made the project feasible by delivering land acquired for NHAI projects, many of which had encountered obstacles due to a lack of available land.
Of late, this is the fourth NHAI project to be revived after getting parcels of remaining acquired land to resume the construction work. The project cost increased by a staggering 49 per cent from the initial Rs 9.57 billion to Rs 14.25 billion, up by Rs 4.68 billion, due to the re-award, following the withdrawal in January 2024.
