T1 at Mumbai airport to witness redevelopment

Terminal 1 (T1) of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai is to be demolished and redeveloped from November 2025. The move is targeted towards increasing the passenger handling capacity.

The initial phase will include demolishing the existing structure, after which a new terminal will be constructed. The capacity gap will be managed by T2 and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to commence operations in 2025.

Works are targeted to be completed in 2028-29. Post completion, the new T1 would witness a boost in capacity, with the ability to handle 20 million passengers per annum (mppa).
